The Reason for the Season

The reason for the season is clearly…

Jesus.  It is that simple.  By now you have eaten enough turkey and Thanksgiving leftovers that you are ready to go full tilt into Christmas “season.”  If Black Friday and Cyber Monday haven’t already refocused your priorities, last minute shopping will soon try.  Holidays are fully upon us, and they can quickly feel less-than-holy.

So let’s do a reality check:

Let me ask you this one question: Where are you at with God?  This question has the power to give you purpose and meaning this December and in your marriage.  You must be willing to answer it truthfully though.  You may not realize it, but God is pursuing you.  He always has been, and He always will be.  He knows everything about you; the good, the bad, the ugly.  AND He still LOVES you.

Distractions will come.

Christmas time has become so commercialized and stressful that we can miss an opportune moment to reconnect with the One who created us.  You probably have your calendar booked out now through the beginning of January: plays, concerts, family gatherings, company dinners, sports, etc.  These things are great but they create a noise that will distract you from hearing the voice, the whisper, of Jesus in your life.

Make a plan.

Make a plan right now to intentionally engage God through prayer, Bible study, and quiet reflection each week this December.  Why?  Because your wife needs a godly leader in her home.  Your children need a godly father that reflects the qualities of their Heavenly Father.  And our culture need men who are blameless, full of integrity, to lead those we encounter back to the God who knows us each by name.  Listen to the words of God, “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6 NIV)

Jesus is the reason.

Run to Jesus with all the baggage your life contains.  Take all your hurts, your pain, your un-forgiveness, and even your sin.  There’s no need to be afraid of His rejection.  He is the whole reason we celebrate.  Confess your sins to Him and stop walking in sinful ways.  Rest in the forgiveness that only He provides.  Then you will possess the key ingredient to becoming a True Husband to your wife.
